I can recall the difficulties of communication when I first bought a home in Florida. Yes, the Americans speak English, but there is a great deal of difference between the legal system in the US and the UK and language is still a partial barrier because of the different cultures. The 5 hour time difference can be an issue for some, although e mail has greatly improved communications. When looking for a house to rent or buy, I found there to be a great difference in the quality of customer service from one real estate company to the next. The Americans have always prided themselves on customer service, but as with the UK, this can vary. So once you have bought your home, invariably the concern one has is who will look after my home? I went through the pain barrier to finally settle on a team to look after my home for me, from pool contractors and gardeners to cleaners and rent collectors, from booking agents to tax specialists, from choosing the right utility companies to the right Broadband service etc. But once you have bought your property, it is likely that you will want to stay there for several weeks of the year. Then you need to know where to shop, where to eat, where to play golf, where to hang out etc. This is where my team’s first hand experience comes in both in the UK and in the US.
